With the latest successful referendum in Latvia it becomes certain that all 10 new states with 74 million consumers will join the EU on 1 May 2004. It means the single largest enlargement of the EU since its formation. Never before so many countries have joined at the same time and never before the process required so many adjustments from the EU and most of all from the accessing countries. It means the big change of doing business in 10 candidate states and among 25 members of the new EU. It also means that there is only seven months to get ready for the change. And not much is yet happening.
